Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Thu, August 6, 2009 - 2:39 PMinteresting question cathyq......
I've been considering the same question with respect to several tribes (one I mod) and a few I belong too which probably failed because they were too specific, too narrow or just plain stupid....
just walking away is a bit like abandoning the baby..... best to smother it first I think.... but perhaps post it as a thread in the tibe... lack of any posts in response will tell you to get the pillow out.... afterall if it aint screaming its likely dead anyway.....

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Thu, August 6, 2009 - 3:16 PMWe prefer not to delete tribes just because they have gone silent, especially if they once were lively. The content may still have useful information that turns up in searches. If you no longer wish to be moderator, you can leave the tribe, but ideally post and ask if someone else would like to over first...

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Thu, August 6, 2009 - 6:58 PMHere, I am, kind of, with GreenMan23 andTribe.net Help together.
Indeed, just leaving the/a tribe is kind of like walking away from a baby, as well as, some pretty darn useful info turns up in searches.
So, I've just thought of something:
I just went and checked in my tribe, (before typing this), whether it has a feature of emailing all the tribe's members, (the particular tribe, not Tribe.net), and I couldn't find anything in that regard.
I think, very useful tool for tribes' management would be this feature. A simple email to all the members of a given tribe would give a chance to avoid situations like this, and find a solution at the same time, (in case somebody responds).
If even after that nobody answers, then the MOD can click the button, (that you will add to the MOD's "tool box"), that says, for example, "Withdraw MODship", ("MODship" - all rights reserved :)), nah, just kidding, you can use the word "MODship" :) ); so, the MOD clicks that button, and the tribe automatically goes into the "Public" mode, (so that others can join without having to go through requests to join, in case the tribe was "Moderated" or "Private"), and the MOD gets relieved of his/her "burden".
...
This might be a solution.

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Fri, August 7, 2009 - 1:46 AMThere are too many spammers to allow something like that.
We don't send unsolicited mail, so members are allowed to set their preference on receiving email from Tribe. If you post a listing for a tribe it will get emailed out to members who have elected to receive tribe listings by email. -

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Tue, August 11, 2009 - 6:19 PMI thought of something like when you go to the "Members" folder, you simply click on the "Email All Members" button and get a regular mail window. Type, click Send, done. No listings necessary.

Sat, September 12, 2009 - 11:27 AMwow
no need to be rude
I hate to leave the tribes with no MOD and have posted for a replacement and none have come up.
It is possible there is another solution; however not likely from you.
and I am biting my fingers from writing " what a jerk" -

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Sat, September 12, 2009 - 2:45 PMI think, with the capitalizing, she just wanted to state the question in a little firmer way than one normally would do, wildapache. In this case capitalizing was not intended as a shout, but as the accent/stressing of the words.
It seems like, to this point, those tribes are really dead, to the fullest extent of the word, and she just really wants to go, that's all.
But she didn't mean to yell, in her question re-post.
...
yogamoon,
I think, I might have a solution for you. In any case, see if it will work. One way or another, you've got nothing to lose.
1). Take the last, say, 30 posts, and see who had posted the most of them, and/or, participated the most.
2). Assign that person as the new moderator and remove yourself as the moderator.
3), If it works, buy Serge a beer, (or 16).
Regars,
Serge :)

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 3:45 AMin one tribe that was me
in another tribe it was me and the previous mod who asked for a new mod
i still felel that closing the tribe makes mor esense
leavign through assignment with NO agreement another as MOD seems unfair to them -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 11:00 AMYes, it is unfair; but, since you "desperately" want to get them off your hands, I thought that... :)
You know what I mean. :))
...
You can request, (in this thread), to be relieved of the MODship. The tribe(s) will just have a note attached to the MOD's pic.-space, saying that a new moderator is needed. I've see this done in a few tribes.
You do not have to do something you do not want to; and if tribe.net really wants to keep those posts/tribes for searches sake, they would understand, and help you, and themselves, so that everyone is happy. You indeed have a right to do as you wish with those tribes and simply delete everything, and remove members. But, since there is a solution I am sure you both, tribe.net and you, can use it.

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 1:36 PMSerge, I like your solution to leaving a dead tribe, and the method for picking a moderator as stated above.
I may use it myself at some point. There are probably people who would never volunteer to be moderator, but if they've been posting to the tribe would accept the position if it's been assigned to them. I've seen it happen before. And they can always assign it to someone else if they really don't like being the mod. -

Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Mon, September 14, 2009 - 12:25 PMIt is infinitely preferable to assign a new mod or leave the tribe without a moderator. Deleting a tribe serves no purpose at all and only removes content from the site that might find use in the future. -
-
Re: What if you MOD a dead tribe? What to do?
Mon, September 14, 2009 - 2:14 PM>Deleting a tribe serves no purpose at all
Hmm. I take that statement as an oversimplification of a rather complex legal issue. Sometimes content must be deleted for legal reasons. Beyond that there are issues of freedom of speech surrounding the ability to delete speech here. It's a complex issue, that's for sure...of which most (all?) of the participants in this tribe are aware?

Re:
Mon, September 14, 2009 - 3:06 PMWell, yogamoon, I guess, the solution is clear - ask tribe.net, in this thread, to releive you of the "command" of some particular tribes, and list which ones.
The content gets preserved, and you can breath easier. Everybody is happy.
Problem is solved!

Re:
Mon, September 14, 2009 - 4:33 PMOh, I didn't know that one can remove himself from being MOD by simply leaving that tribe.
That's cool.
Then try doing that, yogamoon.
