since the last update

topic posted Mon, August 7, 2006 - 7:52 AM by  GREG
The formatting on my monitor is totally screwed up, pretty much like after every update, BUT is usually corrected a few days later. Now it's been a few weeks later and no better. Suggestions?

this seems like an odd place to post that. Is it interfering with your moderating? have you tried checking tribebugs?

sometimes we don't want to get more involved in tribes about tribe. all the employees read this tribe and can respond to questions.my homepage has been a mess since the last update. it works on firefox but I absolutely hate firefox for other reasons.

I just hate this tribe being overrun with stuff that has nothing to do with moderating. I end up just avoiding it for months when it gets taken over by other stuff. I wonder how much stuff about moderating gets lost in the mess. which is fine if that is how the people in the tribe want it. I believe that tribes end up with their own personality based on the people in them. It just makes me wish there was a tribe moderators tribe that was actually about moderating tribes.

"It just makes me wish there was a tribe moderators tribe that was actually about moderating tribes."

            There's this one.

I suppose if we just focus on the tribe-mod related things and ignore the folks who seem to think that any soapbox is their soapbox, then it might work out. or we can write to the Mod and ask his opinion.

I generally support the idea that it's perfectly acceptable for a member to say "hey, this ain't related to us -- why don't you take it to the <whatever> tribe instead." That seems perfectly reasonable. It's not much different than "come to our site and download for only $9.99 ten thousand valid e-mail addresses for you to spam!" ads.

So, yeah, I'll add my voice to that -- I'd rather see this sort of thing in tribe bugs. That just seems appropriate.

Welll....there isn't exactly a lot of bustling activity in here related to moderating tribes.

              Is there?

I think part of its function is to provide a venue for things related to a variety of adminsitrations that the employees of Tribe might keep an eye on

              Don't ya think?

I think the reason there isn't alot of moderator related stuff going on in here is that the people who are actually concerned about that have mostly been run off. I know I don't even usually check in here to contribute because I figure it's just more bitching.

oh and no I don't think.

                  Bull Pucky

                  Clearly you're not thinking.

These things aren't exactl\y rocket science. You've been modding for a long time. Is there some advanced level skill set we all need to know about?

Maybe it's just bitching about nothing because there is nothing to bitch about with regard to the actual subject of the Tribe.

"These things aren't exactl\y rocket science."

                    Then you DO understand.

"You've been modding for a long time. Is there some advanced level skill set we all need to know about?"

Doesn't matter. If Mods want to talk about modding, then this is the place. If someone wants to bitch about a bug in tribe, then tribe bugs is the place.

                    It ain't rocket science.

"Maybe it's just bitching about nothing because there is nothing to bitch about with regard to the actual subject of the Tribe."

Maybe, but so what? usually a little bit of meta on a tribe is a good thing. Asking if this (for some definition of "this") is really an appropriate topic for this tribe actually seems a helluva lot more relevant than wanking on about some bug. Like you wrote, it ain't rocket science.

Sorry I forgot you can't discuss things without being insulting. My bad. I won't make that mistake again.

"Welll....there isn't exactly a lot of bustling activity in here related to moderating tribes."

                Not relevent.

There are tribes for reporting bugs and tribes for mods to discuss mod-related issues. I don't think it's crazy to sugest people make at least a meager attempt to try and keep germane.

"I think part of its function is to provide a venue for things related to a variety of adminsitrations that the employees of Tribe might keep an eye on"

You might, but there's no indication that's true. It's a tribe for mods to talk about mod-related isues. On occasion, I think a tribe employee who happens to also be a member has posted responses or whatnot, but that certainly doesn't seem to be a decent excuse to just completely ignore the supposed purpose of a tribe.

Sorry about the ambiguity. I didn't mean to suggest YOU were like spam -- I meant to suggest things that were patently off-topic, but put here in hopes that "someone" will read them and respond to them was spammy.

Let me speak clearly for the the neurotic people.

IS THERE SUCH A GREAT AND CONSISTENT SURGE OF **ON-TOPIC POSTS/ACTIVITY** IN HERE THAT IT WARRANTS BITCHING ABOUT OFF-TOPIC POSTS,

as if something of any note is somehow interfering with **nothing** actually happening?

Well, even when it's all in caps, it still doesn't matter.

There's a place for posting tribe bugs. It's called tribe bugs. There's a place for mods to talk about mod issues. It's called tribe moderators.

Asking that stuff be kept somewhat vaguely on topic is perfectly cricket.

Asking that stuff that ISN'T on topic (and especially if there's a good place for it) be put somewhere else also seems perfectly cricket.

It must be really difficult spending so much time and energy being neurotic over nothing.

Let me step in, 'cause I love a good fight . But since Edward wisely passes, and since I'm less wise, let me say that Edward is consistently one of the most level-headed, least neurotic people in this effing tribe, which has typically been filled with whiners and flamers of the kind you, MTS, seem intent upon becoming.

(And not to disparage any of you others -- but anybody who's been around here long enough knows exactly the people of whom I speak.)

                            You're right Allen.

I am whining over whiners whining about nothing.

                            Waste of energy.

well you can only expect people to talk about moderating in moderation or it wouldn't be moderate.

well it got too heavy and negative no matter what side you were on, from the flamewars provoked over differnce of opinions about the new tribe content rules. People vent, fight, rage, get angry, greive the changes, then get tired of dwelling on it and get on with their lives.

I'm sure it will heat up again the moment TOU steps in to enforce the rules on a moderator, or perhaps makes another rules change in the future, or change in appearance or anything... then it will go from tumbleweeds to something akin to avatars of O'Reily and Lettermen in the thunderdome hacking at each other with gas powered weed wackers.
