like Tri-Cities .. it doesn't appear to be a person, but rather a link to teh local newspaper. This "Tri-Cities" is moderator of... you guessed it... Tri-Cities tribe.
I thought tribe.net was for individuals to connect, make friends, etc... but for cities to act as people??

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Mon, August 27, 2007 - 7:03 PMWhy not? Tribe is about Community and a city is---um, ----a community. -

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Mon, August 27, 2007 - 7:06 PMok but do you converse with them?
When I read the TOU it says that you can subscribe to trib e i fyou are 18 or over. Yes, the cities are over 18. The "you" implies to me a person, but nowhere does it say a person. A city is not a person.
I just feel that these cities are takign advantage of tribe for purposes of profit and exposure. -

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Mon, August 27, 2007 - 7:11 PMWell, yeah---you're not really conversing with a city--just the one guy or gal who chose to put it on Tribe. In that sense they are claiming speaking rights for the whole city;-) -

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Mon, August 27, 2007 - 7:48 PMyou are not required to use your 'real name' on tribe tho ~ I often have meaningful conversations with rather *wacky* tribe-handles & as long as the commercial interests don't get too spammy ~ the networking is quite helpful, for me...
I'm 'friends' with The Endup & Bondage A Go-Go here ~ both clubs in SF with "reputations" to spread around :)
love all-ways,

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 6:37 AM.....a arts mag. editor joined a tribe of mine with no real 'friend' interest-and she was pretty up front. Felt pretty impersonal, even with a 'name' attached.......
I included the entire county with my Tacoma tribe-without outlying homesteader-types, we wouldn't have many members....my 'geographic' area includes Mt. Rainier.... -

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 9:28 AMbut you are Philip and you moderate a tribe called Tacoma
I am talkign abotu Tri-Cities being a tribe moderated by Tri-Cities... there is no personal information on the profile just links which are daily updated to the local newspaper
no one answered my question on the tribe or to the profile
it is all computer generated and maintained

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 6:25 AMCathy, I think it's shameless, crass and commericialistic. A more econ. conservative person than myself...and yes, I am a real person, might look upon this as a marketing stroke of genius and opportunity to penetrate the alternative community for their straight job bank accounts.
I would pose this question to the community: Can an Alt moderate a tribe? As the site is set up, it seems the answer is yes. Should this be so? And...when does a commercial-alt get catagorized as 'spam'? -
-
Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 8:16 AMThanks Philip for your comments . I agree exactly.
I wrote to tribe.net with this question and did not get answered.

Re: Can a city subscribe to tribe.net and have a profile?
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 9:36 AMas qualities like "shameless, crass & materialistic" are personal opinions ~ I think that this call is better left to the moderators to access on an individual basis

Wed, August 29, 2007 - 5:01 PM<<<< Can an Alt moderate a tribe? As the site is set up, it seems the answer is yes. Should this be so? And...when does a commercial-alt get categorized as 'spam'?>>
I don’t have too much problem with alts unless they flame or maintain they are real to trick people or mock them…
I don’t have a problem with a Alt moderating – as long as they do a good job of it…
A commercial-alt might be spam – but some post interesting information and have conversations and I think they are okay… However, when they are just there to advertise rather than educate them they should go !
