As a moderator how do you handle a situation in which you are forced to choose between one person or the other? i.e. "I don't trust this person, if you keep them, I'm leaving"
I've been torn with this SO many times. Most of the time I feel if you are forcing me to do something, then you will be the one leaving. But why must it be my responsibility? Are we not all adults here?
Have you ever been in this type of situation? how did you handle it?

Re: Forced to choose
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 4:01 PM"Judge people by their deeds." - Jesus
What is this? - A kindergarten?
Usually, it is the squabblers that stir the trouble and then start threatening with doing this or that. I use every opportunity to get rid of them - the place will be quieter, and good people will have a chance to, finally, take a breath of relief.
I've always been shocked how here, (in this country), one can go around and tell people, (for example), - "don't hire him/her", and start smearing a person's good name with, at times, such sick and horrible filth that one can even lose one's speech for a short while. And they do that just because they can. And as remarkable as it is, everyone believes every single slanderous filth said, AND(!!!), acts upon it!!!
I mean HOW CAN somebody just come and say don't let him/her have that, because I don't want him to, or kick him out because I want so. And the overwhelming majority of people do that - they listen to those scumbags and act upon their filth(!!!).
FUCK, LEAVE THE FUCK AWAY, MoFo! - is what I say, (I will even help you). And let the door hit you on the ass on your way out so hard that you shit bones for a week after that...
How do we distinguish, (figure, flash out), between an honorable person and a scumbag leach who had quietly rooted into a group and sucking "blood" out of everybody? - We judge people by their deeds.
An honorable man, or a woman, would never come and start talking trash and filth about ANYbody - this is the first-est sign that triggers alarm!
Throw that threatening "piss a' shit" out of your tribe and you will see how easy everyone will start breathing. I bet in some cases people will want to start posting again; or at least a little more. -

Re: Forced to choose
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 4:17 PMwell it can get complicated.
In tribe very specifically, there is someone who began posting bad stuff about me in several tribes. Titles of threads titled cathyq is trouble. It took soem energy to get mods to remove them. Then when same person posted many posts about a counseling group in our city I commented onthe duplicity of such and a Mod dropped me from the tetribe.
sOMETIMES THE PERSONW ITH THE UNFORTUNATE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ANOHTE RHAS REAL EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THAT OTHER AND IS FACED WITH HOLDING IT OR DETERMINING WHAT TO DO.
tHAT PERSON LIVE SIN MY CITY AND IN REAL LIFE i HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO AND HWO TO AVOID HIM. mOSTLY FO RPEACE SAKE i SIMPLY STAY OUT OF HIS CHOICE OF SPACE IN OUR COMMON GROUPOS. a TTIEMS i HAVE SPOKEN IN REAL LIFE TO GROUP LEADERS BRIEFLY OF THE PROBLEM AND ASKED FOR SUGGESTIONS. mOSTLY STAY AWAY IS THE RESPONSE. tHE COUNSELING COMPANY OWNER IS HIS COUNSELOR AND CHOSE TO PRETEND SHE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT HIM.tURNS OUT HE POSTED ABOUTHIS GREAT PROGRESS WITH HER. -

Re: Forced to choose
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 4:25 PMi don't understand how you are being forced to choose....???
I personally don't 'trust' anyone on the net... how can I? I don't know them... for me we are all just opinions.. no one is going to change the world here... two or more idiots have a drama and threatening to leave a tribe??/ so what... let them go.. who really cares?
don't get me wrong... the internet is fantastic and has enriched my life... but it is nothing more than an addition and tribes are good places to share ideas and discoveries.. to air opinions and concepts, to gain and give assistance, to argue and debate....... its a great alternative to day time TV, but no substitute for real life......
if someone wants to leave then tell them straight .. theres a button on the left... click it if you want.. stay if you want... neither they nor you are being forced to do anything.. what I would aver you are experiencing is a rather lame and frankly infantile form of blackmail.. personally I would just call their bluff....

Re: Forced to choose
Fri, June 26, 2009 - 7:26 PMHave not run into that problem directly as a moderator. I have felt that way as a member of a tribe before though. It's sad but true that one always has the option to not participate if one is not happy with another member being there. Frankly, if the conflict is not manifesting itself directly in a tribe but is being brought in from somewhere else, I'll just mention that a particular forum is not for the breathing of fire, especially if the fire is being stoked externally to the tribe I'm moderating. One thing I don't think is cool is to use someone else's forum for the purpose of blowing off steam at others for problems in real life or in other forums.
Seriously, unless that's what a forum is for (eg complaining and whining about how unfair the rest of the Internet is) a forum should be "focused" by the moderator onto the topic that the moderator wishes the forum to be about.
There are obviously some moderators that like a good brushup in their forums every now and then, some who don't really moderate much at all, and a majority who probably just try to keep things moving along with a minimum of drama? It is to dream...
