Can anyone tell me how to rename a Tribe profile name (as opposed to the 'screen name')? Or, how to un-share it (that is, *not* have it be accessible via a URL to the outside world)???
PM or post here if you care to help. Thanks!

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Wed, July 12, 2006 - 1:39 PMIf you click on 'my account' from the lefthand navigation, and then select the option 'change my tribe.net handle' you'll have the option of changing your handle. In links or bookmarks that were saved with your old handle will no longer be valid. -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, July 14, 2006 - 8:25 AMThanks, Marshall.
It appears users only have the ability to rename their handle. Is there any way to get rid of the handle altogether (that is, not have it be available via a URL)? -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Sat, July 15, 2006 - 10:43 AMYour profile will always be available via a URL, regardless of whether you have a handle or not. There's now way to completely hide it besides unsubscribing from the site. -

Thanks, Patti. -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 7:12 AMChanging your tribe handle, DOES change the url, though.
I had some nut link to my tribe profile and also to a work website with my real name (and location) on her blog as part of some crapfest "expose". I changed my tribe handle and it busted her link. -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 7:52 PMis there anyone who has been on tribe for a while who hasn't had someone be bizarre and stalkery to them? and usually a couple of different people. -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, July 28, 2006 - 9:03 AMI actually haven't from Tribe. This was more a real life person that also happened to be on tribe.
I'm pretty careful, though. -
-
Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, July 28, 2006 - 11:03 AMI don't know if it's careful necessarily. Although guys seem to be shockily open about all of their information, including things that could give someone their home number and address which always seems like asking for trouble to me. But you can be totally careful and end up with a tribe stalker I think. It is then that you have to be happy you were careful so they don't spread to other parts of your life. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, July 28, 2006 - 11:05 AMright. this is true.
I also don't have suggestive photos on my profile, which helps immensely. ;)

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, July 28, 2006 - 11:16 AMfor that one kind of stalker. The worst ones I've seen actually have been women, I had one it was more like she wanted to be me...then that she wanted to do me. and someone else's that I can think of thought that the women she was harassing was with her ex. things like that.
But...I bet you get alot less rude pick up PMs. -

Fri, July 28, 2006 - 11:28 AMoh ew. how very SWF.
No, I actually don't get many at all. It's awesome. :) -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, July 28, 2006 - 2:17 PMNobody stalks me...I'm not popular enough. :( -
-
Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, July 28, 2006 - 4:53 PMI think there is a tribe for that...but maybe it's the gun that intimidates the potential stalkers.

Well, I stalk you, but no one notices. Or they don't care. Same diff.
But the rectangle throws me off. I would never recognize you without the rectangle. -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, August 4, 2006 - 1:20 PMOhh -- so THAT'S why we're in all the same tribes. And I thought that was a coincidence....foolish me.
Well...er...I guess it's good to have the...ahem...attention...
In public, the rectangle is replaced with sunglasses, so it's not that different. But I'm forced to leave the gun at home -- it scares the locals. -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, August 4, 2006 - 1:48 PMI have always wondered what is up with your avatar.
-
Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, August 4, 2006 - 2:55 PMPure coincidence. (ahem)
Now that I think about it, your avatar has given me an idea for an avatar that would probably be terribly, terribly offensive.
Which means I'll probably do it.
I think when you go out in sunglasses, they should have a black rectangle on them.

I SO need a pair!
Strong Voice -- my avatar is supposed to make people scratch their heads. Glad it worked for you. And I never, ever change it -- same one since joining tribe three years ago! -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Fri, August 4, 2006 - 7:48 PMI figured it was a writing thing, I think I saw you say once you were involved in a writing tribe. But yep made me go hm?
I noticed you didn't have any other pictures even in your album...this is why you are not getting stalked like Edward said they need to know what you look like(o: -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Thu, August 3, 2006 - 10:34 AMi've never had any kind of stalker go after me -- on tribe, on any other email list or community, or in my real life where i could be easily tracked down if someone really wanted to.
and i rarely get rude pms or friend invites.
i think it's because i choose not to put off a sexual vibe on tribe, and choose not to be active in sex tribes, and so i don't trigger people's craziness. or maybe i'm just lucky for many many years. ;^) -

Re: Renaming a Tribe profile
Thu, August 3, 2006 - 1:23 PMmaybe they are afraid to stalk you cause they know you'll confront them and make them feel stupid? (o: -
