Renaming a Tribe profile

topic posted Wed, July 12, 2006 - 1:35 PM by  Have A Nice Day
Can anyone tell me how to rename a Tribe profile name (as opposed to the 'screen name')? Or, how to un-share it (that is, *not* have it be accessible via a URL to the outside world)???

PM or post here if you care to help. Thanks!

If you click on 'my account' from the lefthand navigation, and then select the option 'change my tribe.net handle' you'll have the option of changing your handle. In links or bookmarks that were saved with your old handle will no longer be valid.

      Thanks, Marshall.

It appears users only have the ability to rename their handle. Is there any way to get rid of the handle altogether (that is, not have it be available via a URL)?

Your profile will always be available via a URL, regardless of whether you have a handle or not. There's now way to completely hide it besides unsubscribing from the site.

We can run, but we can't hide!

          Thanks, Patti.

Changing your tribe handle, DOES change the url, though.

I had some nut link to my tribe profile and also to a work website with my real name (and location) on her blog as part of some crapfest "expose". I changed my tribe handle and it busted her link.

is there anyone who has been on tribe for a while who hasn't had someone be bizarre and stalkery to them? and usually a couple of different people.

I actually haven't from Tribe. This was more a real life person that also happened to be on tribe.

                I'm pretty careful, though.

I don't know if it's careful necessarily. Although guys seem to be shockily open about all of their information, including things that could give someone their home number and address which always seems like asking for trouble to me. But you can be totally careful and end up with a tribe stalker I think. It is then that you have to be happy you were careful so they don't spread to other parts of your life.

                    right. this is true.

I also don't have suggestive photos on my profile, which helps immensely. ;)

for that one kind of stalker. The worst ones I've seen actually have been women, I had one it was more like she wanted to be me...then that she wanted to do me. and someone else's that I can think of thought that the women she was harassing was with her ex. things like that.

But...I bet you get alot less rude pick up PMs.

i've never had any kind of stalker go after me -- on tribe, on any other email list or community, or in my real life where i could be easily tracked down if someone really wanted to.

and i rarely get rude pms or friend invites.

i think it's because i choose not to put off a sexual vibe on tribe, and choose not to be active in sex tribes, and so i don't trigger people's craziness. or maybe i'm just lucky for many many years. ;^)
