hi all,

came accross this with regard to 'twitter' and thought there were parallels with tribe....

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/techn...8204842.stm

akthough to be honest i'm increasingly reluctent to post, (i'm not interested in exchanging insults like bar room drunks) and am of the opinion that tribe is dead.... because if its not babble, bad moderation or offensive posts which are invariable ignored and not responded too by other members, its just plain inactivity.........

so please refrain from posting obscenities... that's a message particularly for you Serge

regards

actually, 40% of tribe content is people signing their own posts for some unknown purpose...

who made you hall monitor in someone else's tribe?

Can we maybe try to purify the babble? I would prefer my babble to be at least 80% babble.

        hi mickey,

are you attempting to be ironic or rather innocently proving that babble is as dominant here as in twitter?

and for thos who are unsure of what babble is the article does explain...

I'm not clear on the definition of irony. Can you catch me up to speed?

            hi mickey,

as they say in the big house ... I refer the honourable gentleman to my earlier post.....

            >>and babble is what this thread is all about... I had hoped for a discussion on it but as usual will have to settle for an example instead<<

if you want to discuss the article and it's implications with respect to moderation of tribes then i'm game but after 20 posts not one comment... just babble babble babble babble....

has the penny or dime dropped yet?

            regards

      sorry atom?

      >>actually, 40% of tribe content is people signing their own posts for some unknown purpose...<<

are you refering to my habit of address a post and signing it "regards gm23"

if you are its called being polite... I sign my letters too despite the fact that it is headed and addressed..

and?? >>who made you hall monitor in someone else's tribe?<<

what are you implying here? that only the moderator is capable of determining decency? ... oh dear oh dear... perhaps I could direct you to the many threads in this tribe regarding bad moderation...... posted I suspect by people you regard as 'hall monitor'..... do you really lack the ability to come to an independent judgement?

      regards

Tribe is NOT dead, Green man.

It's alive and well in the hearts and minds of burners, at least in the Burningman Tribe.

We've had an upsurge in posting (seems to be an annual thing) and membership (also annual) that occurs within the 3 months before the Burningman event. The moderation team over there is holding people's feet to the fire only when it comes to the Terms of Use and the Code of Conduct. Some of the posts get to be long, others get to be boring, while others are humor-filled or chock full of information. But we read them all. We "steer" the tribe by reminding folks that 'listings go under the listings tab , events go under the events tab, and posts not directly related to Burningman are considered off-topic and should be marked as such unless they deal with bacon." (<see, even humor there in the statement).

I'm sure we'll have ANOTHER upsurge in posts after the event, with the "oooohs and ahhhs" of a great burn. Our big problem is the one of flight from Tribe to go to Ning and Facebook (that's now in reversal), but we're even competing with eplaya now, the Burningman LLC's own forum, for membership and attention.

People over there only sign their posts when their hearts dictate it, or it's longstanding tradition. The moderation function is only as a gatekeeper and an arm of Tribe.net in enforcing those things which could get the service in trouble.

but lets face it even sorting you out would be an impoosibility....

bur then nice take on the babble....

just a shame its not a contrived irony

but then I suspect you probably don't know what that is

            gee, GreenMan

do you think insults are any less insulting just because
            you don't use "obscenities"?

can you not see your hypocrisy?

            babble, indeed.

              hardly...

I responded to a post that mocked the person, something deserved given atoms remarks .. for some it might even be contrived as a backhanded compliment but anyone of a reasonable intellect can see its not an insulting and nor an obscenity... there is a big big difference,,, I can't speak for the Senate but I can tell you that mocking someone is perfectly acceptable in say the house of commons but insulting gets you censored.. the press do it too, they mock politicians particularly when babble spews out of their orifices

and babble is what this thread is all about... I had hoped for a discussion on it but as usual will have to settle for an example instead

                        medication maybe, but not moderation.

                              whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/F...Egg.htm

                              Perfect Fried Eggs:
Now for the modern version (rather my version) of the above recipe:

                              1 fresh large egg*
                              3/4 tablespoon of butter
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

                              * Use the freshest and best eggs you can find.

*Very fresh eggs produce the best shape when frying eggs.

*Place a small non-stick frying pan over the lowest possible heat on your stove (if using gas, you should barely see the blue flame.)

*Add the butter and let slowly melt, making sure it doesn't foam and is not sizzling.

*When all the butter has melted, crack the egg into a small bowl, dish, or saucer (taking care not to break the yolk and to remove any shell fragments).

*Gently slide the egg off the dish into the frying pan and cover with a lid.

*Continue cooking approximately 5 minutes until the egg white solidifies from transparency into snow-white cream; the yolk will thicken slightly as it heats. How quickly the egg cooks is dependent on how low you have the heat.

                              * Do not flip the eggs but leave the egg sunny-side up and natural.

                              * When your egg is done, slide cooked egg onto a serving plate; sprinkle with fresh cracked pepper, salt, and serve.

                              Basic Fried Eggs:

*Heat a non-stick skillet (or a regular skillet greased with a small amount of butter, margarine, or cooking oil) at medium heat until just hot enough to sizzle a drop of water. Or use a regular skillet and add a small amount of butter or oil.

*Break eggs and gently slip into the skillet.

                              *Immediately reduce heat to low.

*Cook slowly until whites are completely set and yolks begin to thicken but are not hard (turning eggs gently to cook both sides or adding a small amount of water and covering with lid to cook tops of eggs). Season with salt and pepper as desired.

                              Steam-Fried Eggs:

*Reduce butter to just enough to grease pan or use light coating of cooking spray and/or nonstick pan.

*In a frying pan over medium-high heat, heat butter until just hot enough to sizzle a drop of water.

*Break and slip eggs into pan.

                              *Immediately reduce heat to low.

*Cook until edges turn white, about 1 minutes.

*Add 1 teaspoon water (for more eggs, decrease proportion slightly for each additional egg being cooked). Cover pan tightly with lid to hold in steam.

*Cook until whites are completely set and yolks begin to thicken but are not hard. Remove from pan and season as desired.
